We really could not have driven through the southern part of New Mexico without stopping in Roswell. As Craig said, we had to get to the bottom of the Alien Landing thing.
Yeah, we did ALL the touristy stuff. Why wouldn’t we?
It all started with the Roswell Welcome sign and the official mural (above):
Everything in Roswell is alien themed, and I do mean everything - did you see the Dunkin’ and McDonald’s photos in the We ♥️ New Mexico post? How about the street lamps? Here they are again, plus some more.
With regard to the most important question - alien invasion or not? The place to start your investigation of the 1947 “incident” is the UFO International Museum and Research Center. It’s got a lot of serious information, a lot of photo “ops,” and a lot of cultural reference displays. It also has a “research library,” which I have to admit, made us laugh (see photos below).
Based on all the information, eye witness reports, etc, etc clearly SOMETHING happened just outside of Roswell in July, 1947. Do we think it was aliens? Dunno - you can’t prove a negative, so I can’t say it WASN’T aliens. On the other hand, the nearby army base reacted way quickly and way harshly according to historically verifiable information. Perhaps the little grey men were…gasp…humans? Subjected to government experimentation?!?!? Conspiracy theory much? I leave it to you to come to your own conclusions.
Here’s some of the interesting displays, seeming to confirm that something happened:
Here are some of the ridiculous displays.
And, last, here’s the research library 😜:
We did enjoy a bunch of the other alien themed activities, but our favorite was the Space Toy Museum:
Bottom line - it was definitely fun, a little illuminating and, in our opinions, worth doing once.
